America’s History and Present

WHITE SUPREMACY IN WILMINGTON, NC, IN 1898 IS WORTH REMEMBERING NOW

Below are two presentations that debuted this month and bookended the November 5th election, which resulted in the first felon to ascend to the Oval Office. Both presentations recall the destruction of a progressive government in Wilmington, NC, more than 100 years ago. Each presentation offers sobering accounts of White backlash to Black political advancement that are instructive because history has a way of repeating itself. On Tuesday, November 12th, the PBS series AMERICAN EXPERIENCE will debut a new document on the coup. Click the billboard below to see the broadcast trailer.
